The Guardian of RitualSpace

This hand carved piece by Michael Quirke of Sligo was created to take in some of the above imagry as well as some others. The piece is of Brigid (Bríd) who was often used as guardian figure, such as for animals and farm. Brigid (the warm one) is depicted as the one eyed goddess. Her hair flows into Water and is poured from the holy grail or cauldron in her hand, in the water are water snakes with eggs and apples in their mouths. The salmon of knowledge swims through it as well. Air is represented by a harp in her hair at the back, Earth by the animals of wild pig and wolf. Fire is seen in the leaves that rise up like flames above the wolf. All is guarded by the Dobhar Cú, curled up under the pig.

The wolf and pig are represented as opposites to reflect the energies of yin and yan.

The Raven of Prophecy sits on her shoulder.
